I had to read this book for an assignment - I don't know if I would've picked it otherwise, thinking "I'm fine with how I resolve all my conflict, thank you very much." Ken really challenged me to proactively resolve conflict to show the power and love of Christ. It really is an amazing witness to fellow Christians and non-Christians to have a Christian proactively forgive and desire a peaceful result in a conflict.

John was a wonderful man, a great teacher and humble. His love of Bird-watching was caught on by many, including his dear friend Myra Chave-Jones (formerly 'Care & Counsel' at All Souls.) Myra went to be with the Lord only a few months ago, so the pair of them will rejoice together in Heaven!

What a great book! In terms of the impact a great evangelical has had on me, it would have to be the first time I read "Knowing God" by Jim Packer - I think I was in my late teens or early twenties and he really enlarged my vision of who God is. I realised something more of God's incredible love for us, but also his righteousness, wisdom, justice and so on. And he really explained well what it means that God is a jealous god!

Since first becoming acquainted with John Stott through reading his commentary on 'The Letters of John', I have always marveled at his God-given gift of presenting the Word of God in clearly understood, yet uncompromising terms. Best seller 'Basic Christianity' brought and continues to bring the truth of the faith once delivered within the grasp of who-so-ever. The breadth of his scholarship is never lacking, but like a skeleton lies beneath the surface and gives strength and form to whatever he wrote.
It was not for nothing that Time magazine ranked this evangelical leader among the 100 most influential people in the world. In his eminently practical work 'I Believe in Preaching' he sums up beautifully: "... it is the preacher's responsibility to open up the biblical principles which relate to the problems of contemporary society, in such a way as to help everybody to develop a Christian judgment about them, and to inspire and encourage the opinion-formers and policy-makers in the congregation ..."
We can only hope and pray that God will raise up another to lead Christians into this new millenium with that boldness born of grace and truth.
Vale.
